Scrolling Text

Turn any phone, tablet, laptop or TV into a scrolling LED banner. Type your message, add emoji, choose the speed, direction and colors, and switch the dot matrix look on or off. Go full screen, hold it up, or send it to a friend as a link.

Click the banner or press F for full screen. Space pauses. Click again or press Esc to exit. On a phone, turn it sideways so more of the message fits.

The message goes in the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.

Want the words to stand still? Use text on screen. Reading a speech? Try the online teleprompter.

How to use it

  1. Type your message. Tap an emoji to add it where the cursor is, or use your keyboard's own emoji.
  2. Choose the speed, the direction (right to left like a marquee, left to right, or upward like movie credits) and the text size.
  3. Pick colors. LED dot look draws the message in round dots like a real LED sign; turn it off for smooth, solid letters.
  4. Click the banner or press F for full screen. Space pauses. Click or press Esc to exit.
  5. Press Copy share link to send the banner, with your message and settings, to someone else.

On a phone, turn it sideways before you go full screen, so more of the message fits on the screen at once.

Ideas for a scrolling message

  • Concerts and games. Hold up your phone with a short message to the band or your team.
  • Shop window or counter. An old tablet or a TV showing "OPEN", today's special or a welcome message. Keep the screen plugged in.
  • Parties and birthdays. A big "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" with emoji on the TV.
  • Classrooms and events. "Next session starts at 2:00" on a projector, scrolling upward so a longer note fits.
  • Gaming and streaming. A marquee on a second monitor or a capture of a browser window.

Want the words to stand still and fill the screen? Use text on screen. Reading a speech? Use the online teleprompter.

Make it readable from far away

  • Short messages work best. People reading a moving sign see only a few words at a time.
  • Strong contrast. Bright text on a black background stands out, especially in a dark room. Turn the screen brightness all the way up.
  • Slow down for distance. The farther away people are, the lower the speed should be.
  • Bigger dots for big rooms. Push the text size up: the LED dots grow with it.
  • No fast flashing. The only blink here is slow, on and off about once a second.

Your message stays private

The banner is drawn in your browser. Your last message and settings are saved on your device only. A share link puts the message in the part of the address after the # sign; browsers do not send that part to the website's server, so the message goes only to the person you share the link with.

Questions

Is this scrolling text maker free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with no app, no sign up and no watermark.

Can I use emoji?

Yes. Tap one of the emoji buttons or type emoji from your keyboard. They keep their own colors in both the smooth and the LED dot look.

How do I share my scrolling message?

Press Copy share link and send the link. It opens this page with your message, speed, direction and colors already set.

Can the text scroll up instead of sideways?

Yes. Pick Upward and the message wraps into lines that move up the screen like credits. Left to right is there too.

Will the screen stay on?

In full screen the page asks the browser to keep the screen awake, which most current browsers allow. If yours does not, set a longer auto lock time in your device settings.

Does it flash?

Only if you turn on Slow blink, which switches the text on and off about once a second. There is no fast flashing.
