Flashlight Online

One tap and your whole screen becomes a bright white light. On phones where the browser allows it, the camera flash button turns on the real flashlight on the back. There is also a slow SOS signal in Morse code, on the screen, the flash or both.

The camera flash button tries the real flashlight on the back of your phone. Some Android browsers allow it; iPhone and iPad browsers do not.

Screen light or camera flash?

The screen light works on every phone, tablet and computer. It is soft and wide: good for finding things in a bag, reading a menu, lighting a keyhole or walking to the bathroom at night. It does not throw light far.

The camera flash is the LED next to the camera. It is much brighter and points where you aim it. Web pages can only switch it on where the browser supports this: it works in some Android browsers (for example Chrome on many Android phones), and it does not work in any browser on iPhone or iPad. When it is not supported, use the flashlight button in your phone's quick settings or control center.

The SOS signal

SOS in Morse code is three short signals, three long signals and three short signals (... --- ...), sent as one group and repeated. This page uses standard Morse timing: a dot is 1 unit of light, a dash is 3 units, the gap inside a letter is 1 unit, the gap between letters is 3 units, and the pause before repeating is 7 units. Slow uses a 0.6 second unit, Medium 0.4 seconds, so the flashes are easy to see and count from a distance.

In a real emergency, call your local emergency number first. A flashing phone screen is only visible over a short distance; the camera flash reaches further.
