Broken Screen Prank

A fake cracked screen that shatters right where you tap. Pick shattered glass, a spider web, thin hairline cracks or a full smash, add the crunch sound and a damaged display effect, and hand the device to a friend. Nothing is really broken, and Esc puts everything back.

What the screen shows first

Fake desktop draws a made up home screen (it switches to a phone layout on a tall screen). My image can be a screenshot of your friend's screen; it stays on this device.

How to use it

  1. Pick a crack style. Shattered and Smashed look like a hard drop, Spider web looks like a corner hit, Hairline is a few long thin cracks. Mixed picks a different one for every tap.
  2. Pick what the screen shows before it cracks: black (like a phone that is off), a fake desktop, white, any color, or your own image.
  3. Press Start the prank. The screen goes full screen and looks normal.
  4. Every tap or click adds a new crack with a glass crunch. Or pick By itself after 10 seconds and just walk away.
  5. Press Esc to exit. On a phone, tap the screen and a small Esc button shows in the top right corner.

Make it convincing

  • Use their own screen. Take a screenshot of your friend's home screen or desktop, choose My image and load it. The picture stays on this device and is never uploaded. When they tap an app, the glass breaks instead.
  • Go truly full screen. On a computer the prank fills the whole display. On an iPhone, add this page to the Home Screen first (Share, then Add to Home Screen) so there is no address bar giving it away.
  • Time it. Leave the device on a table with the timer set to 30 seconds or 1 minute. The screen cracks by itself while they are looking at it.
  • Sound on. The crunch is what sells it. Turn the volume up a little before you hand it over.
  • One crack is enough. A single Shattered crack near a corner looks more real than ten cracks everywhere.

How to exit and reset

Press Esc on a keyboard. On a touch screen, tap once and use the small Esc button in the top right corner, or use the browser's back gesture. The cracks are only a drawing on the page: closing the tab or pressing Clear cracks removes them, and nothing on the device changes.

Always let your friend in on the joke within a few seconds, before anyone reaches for a repair shop or starts to panic about a work laptop.

Questions

Can this broken screen prank damage my phone?

No. It is a drawing on a web page. It does not touch the hardware, settings or files, and it disappears when you press Esc or close the tab.

How do I get out of the fake cracked screen on a phone?

Tap the screen once and a small Esc button appears in the top right corner. You can also swipe back or close the browser tab.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in any modern browser. Android and computers go fully full screen. On iPhone the browser keeps a thin bar at the top, so add the page to your Home Screen for a clean full screen.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image you load for the background is read by your browser only. It is not saved or sent anywhere, and it is gone when you close the page.

Can I turn the crack sound off?

Yes. Untick Glass crack sound. The sound is generated in your browser, so there is nothing to download.
